Gaultier tribute to Amy "Upsets" the Winehouse family

"Bad Taste"

AMY WINEHOUSE's father, Mitch, has spoken out against the Jean Paul Gaultier show which paid tribute to his daughter's iconic style; calling it "an insult" to the singer.

"The family was upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock," he said. "We're still grieving for her loss, and we've had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy's death. To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on. We're proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorises some of the more upsetting times in her life. That's upsetting for her family."

Although the couture clothes seen on the catwalk will not be retailed, rather created bespoke for just a handful of clients, Mitch maintained a donation should have been made in the late singer's name.
"No one asked us for permission or offered to make a donation to the foundation," he told the Sun. "This is purely about Gaultier making money, and that's wrong."
He later Tweeted from his personal account, @mitchwinehouse: "We don't support the Jean Paul Gaultier collection. It's in bad taste. Mitch."

Gaultier's tribute to the singer - which included models dressed glamorously in beehives and eyeliner - was a celebration of her impact on fashion, the designer said.

"She was an icon of fashion and truly, the sense of how she mixed the clothes - it was great," Gaultier said. "It was very Eighties but we did it in a very modern way. It is very joyous."

The Rihanna Show

The Rihanna Show

VOGUE cover girl Rihanna is set to become the next Heidi Klum as she turns executive producer of a new fashion reality series, which aims to find Britain's future design star. The search will also be fronted by Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts and will air on Sky Living this spring.

"I've always had a great love of fashion," said the star. "It's a constant source of inspiration in my life, and is a big reason why I've grown into the person and artist I am today. I have been very fortunate to work with some truly amazing designers and stylists throughout my career, and they have been instrumental in making sure my creative vision reaches the stage. I am excited to follow the journey of our aspiring contestants and see how their individuality influences their efforts during the course of the show."
Over the period of ten weeks, the unknown designers will be tasked with creating outfits for a host of musicians and celebrities. The winner will design Rihanna's unique stage outfit for her Hyde Park Wireless performance in July.

"With her world-class reputation and passion for style, Rihanna is perfectly placed to find an aspiring designer worthy of the chance to break into the hugely competitive world of fashion," a statementon Sky Living's website read. "Tasking Nicola with fronting the search, Rihanna will be heavily responsible for casting and will be involved in editing post-production."

Chanel Girls

Chanel Girls

EDIE CAMPBELL was given one of the ultimate modelling accolades on Tuesday, when she closed the Chanel spring/summer 2012 couture show - but the experience was nearly all too much.

"Well I didn't really realise that it was a big deal until I was told by a few people just how important the wedding dress is," she told us. "And I wasn't nervous until about two minutes before I had to go on, at which point I nearly did a runner - but I'd probably be a bit obvious sprinting into the distance wearing a wedding dress."

The "bride" is typically thought to be the most important look of a couture show, and allows the designer to demonstrate their most intricate and impressive techniques - and Campbell fully understood the responsibility of wearing such a dress.

"I'm very flattered and a little confused," said Campbell of her role. "There were 25 people assigned to making that wedding dress and I had to try to animate all those hours of labour, so in that sense the model is important."

Currently represented by Viva London, Campbell was suitably impressed by Lagerfeld's latest Chanel offering, which took blue as its primary theme.

"I'd wear head-to-toe blue every day if it didn't make me look like a Smurf ,so yes, it's right up my street!" she laughed.

Another Chanel muse and the label's latest campaign star, Alice Dellal, also offered her praise for the iconic designer.

"He was so nice and so genuine," she said in an interview for Chanel. "I wasn't surprised by how genuine and cool he was because you can tell that, but to be able to talk to him and share the same opinions was really nice. [The campaign] was such a good experience - I'll remember it forever."

The British model fronts the house's new handbag line - previously modelled by Lily Allen, Vanessa Paradis and Blake Lively.

"It's so weird and so unexpected," Dellal explained said of her new role. "I'd never thought I'd so something like this. I don't want to compare myself to the other girls, who have done this, but they're all really different and so am I."

SPFW Highlights

SPFW Highlights

WHILE the menswear shows turned into couture, Sao Paulo Fashion Week was taking place across the other side of the world. Here, renowned fashion journalist Gianluca Longo reports for VOGUE.COM.

"It was a busy Fashion Week in Sao Paulothis season. Most designers showed in the modernist building of the Art Biennale (another marvellous example of Oscar Niemeyer's designs), and a few had great locations that made my trip there even more interesting - the most exciting of all was the railway station Da Luz for the Cavalera show, in the colonial part of Sao Paulo. Here are my highlights from the shows."

Creative Collaborator

Creative Collaborator

JEFFERSON HACK's new No_Code collection for Tod's could lead you to believe he has followed his ex-love Kate Moss to turn his hand to design - but Hack insists the collaboration was more creative than manual.

"I am not a designer," he insisted. "Please don't call me that. I respect the work of real designers too much to try and pretend to be one! This collection is the product of a collaboration where I was invited to bring my point of view to Tod's. I oversaw every element and worked closely with talented designers at Tod's and an amazing support team of my own. Together we created an identity for the collection that I am very proud of."

Created for men or women, the collection of shoes and boots - which can be worn for day to night, with any look; hence No_Code - was more than a year in the making, and channels some of Hack's favourite muses.
"I was thinking of quite tomboyish, or at least tough, girls and I couldn't help obsessing over Lee Miller," he confessed. "I have the biggest crushes on dead girls. Lee Miller is a girl I am in love with. For the man, I am not sure I really had one a reason as strong as that; I just like the style of many of my male friends. I love it when I see girls wearing boys' styles of shoes. I think it can be super elegant, and also at the same time strong and confident."

Lingerie Secret

Lingerie Secret

VICTORIA'S SECRET launched its first high end lingerie line yesterday - and it's nearly sold out already. Described by the brand as "exquisite, timeless, delicate and glamorous", several of the key pieces were shown during the brand's latest show in November - although the project was a kept a secret until now.
The offering, entitled The Victoria's Secret Designer Collection, will replace the luxury lingerie labels that are stocked in most VS stores. The collection features chiffon baby dolls, bras and matching thongs with delicate ruffle detailing and silk garter belts.

"We took it in-house because we have a design team that has such a passion for lingerie, and they differentiate Victoria's Secret from any other brand," the brand's president and chief marketing officer Ed Razek told WWD.

Prices start at $38 (£24.40) for a garter belt and stretch to $298 (£191.40) for a lace merry widow. The collection is available now from VICTORIASSECRET.COM.

McCartney will be visiting various elements of Selfridges' World of Stella exhibition on February 8, before sitting down for a rare and intimate chat with Shulman followed by a cocktail party.

McCartney will arrive at 6pm to sign bottles of her L.I.L.Y fragrance, which launches exclusively at Selfridges, before  visiting the installation which will house her Adidas My2012 by Stella McCartney collection on the ground floor: McCartney's first offering to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games, for which she has designed the Team GB kits.

"The starting point of this collection was to kick-off 2012 in style and celebrate the 2012 Olympic Games being hosted by London," McCartney told us. "The designs are intended to have an exciting energy and we worked around simple silhouettes in navy and grey marl, contrasted with bright block panels and prints to keep the collection fun and relaxed. A personal favourite of mine is the simple, laid-back sweater dress."
Also part of the World of Stella is a lingerie pop-up, and accessories wall, a sunglasses section, a ready-to-wear mainline shop-in-shop, and a childrenswear offering - all with added fun extras; from face painting and lingerie monogramming, to the chance to win a £1,500 Stella shopping spree.

Roll On Couture

Roll On Couture

MONDAY sees the return of Couture Fashion Week for spring/summer 2012, hot on the heels of the men's shows (see all the action here), and with them comes another couture return: Atelier Versace. Donatella hasn't showcased her bespoke wares anywhere but the red carpet since January 2004 - but what better season to show the brand's most expensive dresses than the one which debuted its least expensive ever: for H&M?

After Versace's opener, the day sees a mix of the old and new of the couture world take to the catwalk. Two of the fashion house's newest additions; Alexis Mabille and Giambattista Valli, show on Monday; as does one of couture's institutions - Christian Dior - still with Bill Gaytten at the helm. Only his second collection since taking over as creative director, it could scarcely receive a more robust critical panning than his first, but his ready-to-wear line in October fared much better, so perhaps summer is his season.

Tuesday brings out the big guns: Chanel, Givenchy and Giorgio Armani Privé - as well as couture's "Modern Knight", Stéphane Rolland, who promises his show's bride will be a surprise worth waiting for.

Valentino and Jean Paul Gaultier promise to thrill us on Wednesday: with fun, frivolity and fabulous models on one hand, and with almost-edible frothy dresses and make-up we'll want to copy on the other. One thing is for sure: when dresses that cost more than a house are worn by the world's most beautiful women - the pictures are always worth a look.
Click back on Monday for the latest fashion as it happens.

Inside Marc’s Mind

Inside Marc’s Mind

MARC JACOBS may be one of the world's most well thought of designers, but he still isn't sure whether success leads to contentment.

"I don't know what the key to happiness is," he said. "Happy is just a feeling like every other feeling. I certainly feel happy some days and in general I am pretty happy, but I have all the other feelings as well. So I don't know if there is a key. Maybe the Buddhists have it right where they just sort of honour all feelings and just go with the flow. And then I think you have no problems."
The designer also opened up about his ultimate career goal.

"[I want] to make nice things and to get them out there so people can enjoy them," he told online magazine The Talks.
