Felicities Press Reception

Tuesday 27 April @ The Hoxton Factory

Tuesday evening saw all the lights at the Hoxton Factory for the Felicities press reception. It was an evening of exquisite style, good friends, fabulous cocktails, and, of course, the stunning cupcake designs by Jacob Kimmie, proving once again that inspiration has no boundaries.

It was lovely catching up with some of the designers I worked with during London Fashion Week AW10: Ada Zanditon with her ethical designs, Alice Palmer’s “Batman” collection, Harriet’s Muse with remarkable textures and mini silhouettes, and Jacob Kimmie’s “Pilgrim” collection, featuring a striking palette of black, white, and cream.

I also spotted the duo Sam Cook and Andy D’Cruze with their elegant Darkest Star vintage designs, and Imogen Belfield’s jewellery collection, inspired by both architecture and nature, with pieces referencing everything from towering skyscrapers to delicate flowers. The highlight of the night was Anya Wilkinson’s collection of cocktail dresses, tailored jackets, and stylish coats. CC Kuo also stood out with modern dresses inspired by drapes and pleats.

During the event, I had the chance to speak with several designers and journalists, all of whom praised Vauxhall Fashion Scout for supporting emerging talent. This industry can be tough—sweat and tears are part of the journey. It’s versatile, competitive, and only the strong and resilient will thrive. Keep your head up, listen to feedback, and you can go far.

It was a very enjoyable evening, and I look forward to seeing where these designers’ journeys take them next.

The moment we had all been waiting for finally arrived: Hermione de Paula’s show! It was incredible, with stunning outfits, perfect cuts, and lots of colour.

Next came Nico D’s exhibition, which was equally impressive, followed by the FAD catwalk collection to close the day.

It was a fantastic day, and everything went according to plan.

London Fashion Week - Day 1

London Fashion Week, Day 1

So, let’s start with today’s schedule.

Friday 19 February

It was a day full of action and a lot of stress.

The Media Centre was meant to open at 11:00am, but my colleagues and I had to be there from 9:00am. We went around to designers’ and PR offices to collect press packs, then headed back to prepare the press lounge for the day.

The Prophetik show was scheduled to start at 1:00pm, but there was a fashion delay of about half an hour. That actually worked in our favour, as it gave us a bit of extra time to get the press room fully up and running.

Once the Prophetik show finished, members of the press flooded into the Media Centre. Journalists and bloggers started uploading photos, writing reviews, sending emails, and taking a short break before rushing off to the next show.

Next up was the David Koma show, which I was lucky enough to attend. It was an amazing show.

As last season’s Merit Award winner, David Koma delivered a strong collection once again. While his previous spring summer collection was dominated by colour, this time the mood was much more muted. Milk white tones, super sleek styling, and super long, slicked back hair defined the look of the show.

After that came BODYAMR, another great show.

Amr Ali, the designer behind BODYAMR, continued to present a strong vision of women as sexually empowered warriors in his AW10 show. Dresses were draped, cuts were body conscious, and models wore their hair slicked back at the sides, creating a mohawked effect as they strutted through the iron gates of the marble lined hall at Freemasons’.

Next came the Danny Tang show, inspired by Queen Victoria. The colour palette was kept simple and elegant, focusing on black, red, and gold, brought to life through silk and lace fabrics.

Following that was the Gemma Slack presentation, held on the first floor of Freemasons’ Hall.

A collection full of leather and wool.

And last but not least, the Ones to Watch show. Four great designers presenting together.

That wrapped up all of today’s catwalk shows.

My day finally ended at 10:30pm. I was completely exhausted, I could barely feel my legs, but it was absolutely worth it. 😊

London Fashion Week Day: 0 - The Beginning of a Fashion Era

Day 0, Thursday, 18 February

I had to be at Freemasons’ Hall at 11:00am for staff training and briefing.

I arrived a little earlier because I really did not want to be late. When I got there, I found lots of girls waiting outside, smoking and chatting. Before long, it turned into a big group and we all started talking. What really impressed me was how many people had come from all over the UK. There were girls from Manchester, one from Devon, and others from Newcastle. I have to admit, I felt quite lucky to be from London. My journey was only 24 minutes door to door.

Once everyone had gathered, we went inside the building and one of the directors asked us to head to one of the historic rooms at Freemasons’ Hall to get started.

First things first, we went through some ground rules. No eating carbs during Fashion Week and girls must wear high heels at all times… just kidding. Fashion Week is not really about that.

The main instruction was simple. We all had to wear black. They also spoke generally about what to expect during Fashion Week. Lots of stress, potential fashion disasters, and the reminder not to take it personally if people were short or rude. Stress levels would be high everywhere.

After the briefing, it was time to split into groups and assign roles.

I had no idea which position I was going to get. Some people already knew, but I had no clue. The coordinator started calling names for the backstage team, then front of house. Still no sign of my name. I started thinking, what happened to me?

Then came the Media Centre. And there it was. My name.

I was assigned to the Media Centre team, which consisted of five people. I thought, great. Even though I did not fully know what the Media Centre responsibilities were, it immediately made sense in my head. Since I am studying PR, it felt like a perfect fit.

Once everyone was assigned, the VFS director gave us a tour of the building and showed us all the areas where Fashion Week would take place. From the catwalk to the exhibition room, from the presentation spaces to the Media Centre.

Before I realised it, it was already 4:30pm. After the full tour and getting familiar with the building, we finally started talking in detail about responsibilities.

The Media Centre would essentially be the press lounge. Journalists, bloggers, photographers, and other members of the press would come there to collect press materials for the shows and designers, as well as use the IT facilities to tweet, blog, and email.

Our role was to assist them, provide information about designers and shows, and answer general questions about the fashion schedule. We also had to carry out daily fashion research, tracking any online and offline media coverage. Whenever we found something related to us, we had to record and archive it.

I remember thinking to myself, perfect. I honestly could not have asked for anything better.

So yes, that was Day 0. Very easy. I left feeling excited and could not wait to come back the next day for the grand opening of London Fashion Week AW10.

Working for London Fashion Week - AW10

So here we go. My name is Georgios Mavridis and I am a postgraduate student at the University of Westminster, studying Public Relations, with a big passion for fashion.

A few weeks ago we had a guest speaker in our Fashion PR class, John Walford from Vauxhall Fashion Scout. He spoke about the fashion industry in the UK and internationally, and shared plenty of useful tips and advice.

At the end of the class, he mentioned that there were internship opportunities for London Fashion Week AW10 and invited anyone interested to apply. So I did.

Next thing I knew, I received an email saying I was in. I was thrilled. I had previously worked for a fashion PR agency and a fashion magazine, but I had never had the chance to work at London Fashion Week. The biggest event in fashion.

I honestly did not know what to expect.

Today, on the last day of Fashion Week AW10, I decided to start this blog so I can share my experience day by day.
