FASHION'S most beautiful and iconic photographs are set to
be sold at Christie's on November 2. The collection features an impressive roll
call of modern history's biggest stars captured in candid, honest portraits -
from Johnny Depp to Marilyn Monroe to Marlon
Brando - to famous fashion shots of Vogue covers and shoots, taken by
photographers including Helmut
Newton, David
Bailey and Horst P Horst.
"The sale presents a fantastic opportunity to buy some
of the most iconic fashion and celebrity images which have shaped our popular
culture of the 20th Century," said Christies' head of sale, Alexander
Montague-Sparey. "Horst and Newton's ability to so poetically play with
the notion of elegance and style with their models, is exemplified this season.
Alongside female grace, we come across Mick Jagger and Johnny Depp, whose
relationship to Bailey's lens is captivating. What all our fashion and icon
photographers all have in common in this sale is their ability to home in on
the star quality of their muses with such originality, drawing out their
souls."
Highlights include 1940 cover of US Vogue, the magazine's
name created using models in different poses, David Bailey's intimate pictures
of Mick Jagger and Johnny Depp and a shot of Marilyn Monroe caught off guard,
drinking a cup of coffee in an American café. Estimates start at £500.
